Drug Treatment and Criminal Justice Reform

Maine is one of the states hardest hits by the opioid crisis; thousands of Mainers are dying or being sent to prison for experiencing substance use disorders every year. MPA believes in ending the failed War on Drugs and advancing drug policy reforms that:

-          Help people get the treatment, care and recovery resources they need to get and stay healthy

-          Reduce the harm caused by drug use for Mainers currently using drugs

-          Shift government resources away from punishment and incarceration, and towards a public health approach

-          Hold accountable pharmaceutical companies and other corporate actors who knowingly contributed to the overdose crisis

MPA works to de-stigmatize drug use and drug addiction by elevating the voices of impacted Mainers and their families.
