Fair Taxes

A series of decisions at both the state and federal level have rigged the tax system in favor of the wealthy and large corporations and against those who have the smallest share. At the same time, vital programs have been cut or starved of funding.

Raising taxes on the wealthy is a critical and meaningful way to address income inequality, generate revenue for crucial investments and projects and secure the resources necessary to build a more inclusive economy in Maine.

Taxes are an important way that a society expresses its priorities and should be based on shared prosperity and an ability to pay. MPA works to make the tax system more fair, including by advocacy to the governor and state legislature, and make sure wealthy individuals and corporations pay their fair share to support health care, education and other vital but underfunded community priorities.
