Maine Chamber of Commerce, Unions United in Call for Comprehensive Immigration Legislation
On Wednesday, immigrants, community leaders and representatives from Maine labor and business organizations gathered on the steps of the First Parish Church in Portland to call on Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

In April the Maine People’s Alliance, in conjunction with groups across the country, educated and trained thousands of people on direct action and the roots of the economic crisis. The trainings, dubbed the “99% Spring,” sought to train 100,000 people in the span of a week.

With a planned party-line budget vote today, Maine Republicans are set to take an historic action. By ratifying Governor Paul LePage's deep cuts to important health care programs and his giant new tax breaks that mainly benefit the wealthy, they are set to make Maine's economic policy the most ideological and extreme of any state in the nation.
