2012 Scorecard

The recent legislative session has made one thing abundantly clear: elections matter. When Governor Paul LePage won the Maine governorship with a plurality of the votes on Election Day in November, 2010 and Republicans won a small majority in the House and a larger one in the Senate, the political landscape in Maine shifted abruptly.

2012 Scorecard Bills

LD 1237: An Act To Prohibit Bullying in Schools (MPA Supported)

Backed by MPA and our partners in the LGBT community, this bill ensures students will be free from bullying—both online and in schools. After passing in the Senate, the bill passed in the House during the special session.

Senate Roll Call 210

LD 145: An Act To Protect Homeowners Subject to Foreclosure by Requiring the Foreclosing Entity To Provide the Court with Original Documents (MPA Supported)

Understanding the Scorecard

The scorecard is meant to show the nuanced distinctions between legislators, not necessarily the history of a bill’s life or death. Each scorecard roll call was carefully picked and reviewed by MPA and its allies to demonstrate the definitive struggles within each bill. For example, while a bill may pass unanimously in the end, roll call votes on amendments prior may be a more genuine indicator of a legislator’s values. The roll calls represented in the scorecard are listed at the end of each bill description.
