MPA is currently accepting inquiries for Legislative Director, a full-time, salaried senior-level position that reports to MPA’s Deputy or Co-Director.

A core responsibility of this position is to serve as MPA’s primary state legislative lobbyist, a role that includes:

• guiding the formulation and execution of strategies and tactics to advance MPA legislative and policy priorities (coordinating closely with allied organizations and MPA’s communications, field and organizing teams);
• growing new and deepening existing relationships between elected officials and MPA;
• overseeing regular communication with elected officials, legislative leadership, and their staff;
• overseeing the drafting, editing and analysis of legislative language;
• overseeing the researching and drafting of informational materials and public statements/testimonies related to MPA legislative and policy priorities;
• maintaining up-to-date awareness and deep knowledge of all relevant legislative initiatives and policy developments;
• speaking with the press and coordinating with MPA’s Communications Director on press strategies to enhance legislative goals; and
• overseeing voter education programs during times the legislature is adjourned (production of MPA’s legislative scorecard, design/execution of voter contact programs for candidates and ballot initiatives, etc.)

Qualifications:

• At least three years of relevant legislative advocacy experience;
• Strong commitment to progressive values;
• Excellent judgment in a fast-moving, complex, political campaigns context;
• Team-oriented with superb relational and communications skills
• Proficient in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications;
• An ability to meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced work environment;
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Facebook/Twitter
• A willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and occasional weekends;
• Some experience in the realms of fundraising, communications, or field organizing for advocacy organizations or political campaigns preferred; and
• Legal expertise a plus.

The position is unionized and full-time at a competitive wage in the range of $50-$75,000, depending on experience.  Open until filled.
