Cowards Caucus

Last night, the House of Representatives failed by two votes to override the Governor’s veto of LD 1066, a bill to allow Maine to accept federal funds to provide health insurance for 70,000 Mainers.

Maine People's Alliance health care organizer Jennie Pirkl issued a word of warning to two Republican lawmakers who had previously voted for the bill but switched their votes when it mattered most.

“Maine failed to accept federal health care funds because two Republicans switched their votes: Rep. Sharri MacDonald and Rep. Windol Weaver. They voted for health care originally, but didn’t have the courage to stand up to the Governor and buckled under the pressure. MPA has named them as the first official members of the Cowards Caucus. They should probably start looking for new jobs before the next election.”
