LD 375 An Act To Amend the Family Medical Leave Laws (Roll Call 83)
This bill adds domestic partners and their children to the list of family members for which workers may take job-protected time off. MPA supported the bill, which passed 95 to 41 with 14 absent. back to top

LD 431 – An Act to Enable the Dirigo Health Program to be Self-Administered (Roll Call 167)
This bill allows Dirigo Health to provide DirigoChoice health coverage through a self-administered plan if, after evaluating bids for coverage from other providers, the board finds it favorable to do so. MPA supported this bill because we believe the best way to strengthen DirigoChoice, and protect the health coverage it offers thousands of Mainers who wouldn't otherwise have it, is to uncouple it from the profit motive and high administrative costs of Anthem, the current private provider. MPA supported the bill, which passed 84 to 56 with 11 absent. back to top

LD 936 – An Act to Protect the Housing Opportunities for Maine Fund (Roll Call 172)
This bill makes it more difficult for revenues set aside for the Housing Opportunities for Maine (HOME) Fund, the state's affordable housing trust fund, to be used for things other than affordable housing initiatives. MPA supported the bill, which passed 99 to 41 with 11 absent. back to top

LD 1658 – An Act To Protect Pregnant Women and Children from Toxic Chemicals Released into the Home (Roll Call 92)
This bill phases out the widely used toxic brominated flame retardant, known as “Deca”, by January 2008. It prohibits any new uses of Deca in mattresses and home furniture, and phases out Deca in electronics (primarily the plastic casings of televisions). MPA supported the bill, which passed 129 to 0 with 21 absent. back to top

LD 1810 – An Act To Enact the Informed Growth Act (Roll Call 165)
This bill provides Maine communities with much needed information to assess the impacts of proposed large-scale retail developments on their towns, taxes and local economies. It establishes a transparent and uniform process for evaluating these impacts. The legislation requires independent comprehensive impact studies for big box stores over 75,000 square feet. These studies must assess such factors as the projected impacts on existing businesses, jobs, wages, vacancy rates, and municipal services. In addition, permit approval requires that the local permitting authority find that the project will not have an undue adverse impact on the local economy. MPA supported the bill, which passed 86 to 55 with 10 absent. back to top

LD 1849 – An Act To Protect Consumers from Rising Health Care Costs (Roll Call 168)
This bill charges the Advisory Council on Health Systems Development with the duty of making recommendations to the next session of the Legislature on specific methods to control rising health costs. MPA supported the bill, which passed 116 to 28 with 7 absent. back to top

LD 1851An Act To Establish the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative Act of 2007 (Roll Call 99)
This bill addresses global warming by having Maine join the 10-state Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, the nation's first cap-and-trade program designed to reduce power plant pollution by 10% over the next decade. MPA supported the bill, which passed 120 to 7 with 23 absent. back to top

LD 1925 – An Act To Cut Taxes on Maine Residents by over $140,000,000 (Roll Call 194)
This legislation targeted tax reductions to low- and moderate-income families, and would have benefited all Mainers by lowering property and income taxes while generating the revenue needed to support programs Mainers value. MPA supported the bill, which passed in the House 80 to 59 with 12 absent, but was defeated in the Senate. back to top
