About MPA Affordable Housing The Environment |
Affordable Housing Maine People’s Alliance believes in building democratic and inclusive communities where all residents have equal access to fair housing. We believe that access to quality and affordable housing is a human right. We organize so that low-income people are at the table to make the critical decisions that guide housing development and planning in our neighborhoods and communities. We envision a community planning process that frees people from the forces of gentrification and displacement as they directly participate in the decisions that affect their lives. Democracy does not and cannot happen behind closed doors! That’s why Maine People’s Alliance has been organizing around low-income housing issues since 1982 and we’re still going strong! Housing Strategy Committee Meeting We meet regularly to plan for our housing campaigns. Call Kate at 782-7876 for more information. Current Campaigns MPA continues to support the work of the Visible Community in Lewiston. This coalition, led by downtown residents, worked to design a "People’s Master Downtown Plan" as part of their efforts to empower downtown residents to shape future development in their neighborhoods. Read the plan here.
