Working together for a better Maine Some recent successes achieved through work with our allies and partners: Marriage Equality (May, 2009): MPA and our partners in the Maine Freedom to Marry Coalition helped to pass a law legalizing marriage between gay and lesbian couples. Maine became the first state to have such a law passed by its legislature and signed by our governor. Protecting Children from Toxic Chemicals (April 2008): working with our partners in the Alliance for a Clean and Healthy Maine, MPA helped to pass Maine's Kid Safe Products Law, legislation aimed at protecting children’s health
